Public and Government Affairs Units

Community Relations

The Office of Community Relations works to build and maintain relationships between UIC and its neighboring communities. The office works with local civic, corporate and community organizations and with alumni and internal constituents. Community Relations works to engage all partners in helping UIC pursue its mission as a leading urban public research institution.

Digital Communications

The Office of Digital Communications guides the University’s overall digital communications strategy. The team manages the university’s home page, UIC.EDU and other top-level pages and provides support and guidance for the design, content, navigation and accessibility of all other university Web pages.

Government Relations

Working with the University of Illinois Office of Government Relations, Public and Government Affairs supports the advocacy efforts of the UI President and the UIC Chancellor at the local, state and federal level. The office provides support to legislative efforts and builds relationships with key government stakeholders. The office collaborates with alumni on grassroots advocacy programs.

International Affairs

The Office of International Affairs represents UIC abroad and in relations with local and national partners who collaborate with UIC on international projects. OIA supports the efforts of our campus’ fifteen colleges as they engage globally. We host international visitors and delegations, visiting scholars and international exchange students.

Marketing and Brand Management

Marketing and Brand Management builds awareness of UIC and enhances its reputation through integrated marketing and communications while transforming the vision and values of UIC into engaging strategic campaigns. Marketing and Brand Management supports UIC by championing the brand, providing University-wide services and support and pursuing innovative marketing strategies and opportunities. Marketing and Brand Management also promotes UIC’s brand image by strategically managing, protecting and monitoring the trademark properties associated with UIC.

Public Affairs

The Office of Public Affairs is an information source and public portal to the campus. Working with media in all its forms, the office broadens public awareness and understanding of UIC, its missions and partnerships and the achievements of its faculty and students. In addition to outreach through the media, Public Affairs manages UIC’s own news and information properties including UIC News, the award-winning print and online campus newspaper; audio and video productions; two YouTube channels; two Facebook pages; two LinkedIn pages; two Twitter feeds; the UIC Science blog; and I Am UIC student blogs. Public Affairs also serves the campus administration and colleges in crisis communications; works closely with UIC Police and the Environmental Health and Safety Office on emergency communications; and serves all units in cross-campus internal communications.

UIC News

A unit within Public Affairs, UIC News has won multiple top awards from CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The print newspaper, featuring campus updates, research news, personal profiles and student-contributed articles and photos, also includes paid advertising from campus and off-campus advertisers. Published weekly when classes are in session and monthly in the summer, it has a circulation of 10,000. The online edition is sent by e-mail three-times weekly or once a week between semesters.
